Portable console released in 2004

This dual-screen console opened up new, innovative ways to play games; mainly with touch-based control, but also in other ways, such as interacting with its microphone. A later model, the DSi, would introduce a camera and an online download service to the console.

Nintendo DS Lite

The Nintendo DS Lite was sold as an upgrade to the original Nintendo DS. While the basic concept and usage is the same, the physical device was redesigned to be much smaller and lighter, with a more appealing design. It very quickly replaced the original DS model in all marketing material. A lesser-known new feature of the DS Lite was the ability to choose between varying levels of screen brightness, while the original DS model only allowed the backlight to be "on" or "off".

AC Adapter

The AC adapter for the Nintendo DS Lite, interestingly, was used exclusively by the Nintendo DS Lite. While the original DS model used the same charging port as the Game Boy Advance SP, future DS models would use the WAP-002 charger, making this AC adapter a bit of an anomaly. While differing from the WAP-002 charger, it has a similar design for the plug, but painted in a darker grey colour.

Nintendo DS Lite Stylus

The Nintendo DS Lite stylus is 85mm long, and 1mm thicker than the Nintendo DS stylus and can be stored in the main body when not in use. The stylus comes included with the console, but can be bought separately in case the owner loses it.

GBA Port Cover

The GBA port cover is a small bit of plastic designed to keep dust from getting into the often vacant GBA port. Since the DS Lite is much more compact than the standard DS, GBA cartridges protrude from the console by 1cm. The GBA port cover is designed smaller than the average GBA cartridge to prevent protrusion and to keep the console looking aesthetically pleasing.

Nintendo DS Lite Rumble Pak

The Nintendo DS Lite Rumble Pak allows the Nintendo DS Lite console to rumble and vibrate by inserting the rumble pak into the GBA slot. This Rumble Pak differs from the standard DS Rumble Pak in size only; this Rumble Pak is small enough to fit comfortably in the DS Lite's GBA port without protusion. The DS Lite Rumble Pak was available exclusively through Nintendo's Japanese website.

Nintendo DS Lite Memory Expansion Cartridge

The Nintendo DS Lite Memory Expansion Cartridge is an option pak used to increase the limited 4MB RAM of the Nintendo DS Lite by an additional 8MB. It was bundled and used exclusively by the Nintendo DS Lite Browser; it's not even possible to use the Nintendo DS Lite Browser without having the Memory Expansion Pak inserted. The contents of the Memory Expansion Pak is wiped when the Nintendo DS Lite console is powered off, meaning it's not possible to save the cache, cookies or any temporary data. Once again, this Memory Expansion cartridge differs from the standard DS Memory Expansion cartridge in size only, to prevent protusion.
