Classic Donkey Kong


Action series started in 1981


A part of the Donkey Kong franchise mostly characterised by design elements that debuted in the original arcade game. Simplistic action gameplay, girders and construction-aesthetic levels and a vintage version of Donkey Kong that uses Shigeru Miyamoto's original design.

The first Donkey Kong game of any kind. This game marks the debut of Mario, originally named Jumpman, who must rescue Lady from Donkey Kong. This game was a huge hit, even internationally, and is what gave Nintendo the push needed to fully commit to videogames as an industry.

Donkey Kong Jr is on the move to rescue his father Donkey Kong, who has been captured by Mario. This game features enemies that can be defeated by dropping fruit on their heads and a more flexible level design philosophy that allows you to take different routes to avoid certain enemies or obstacles.

A remake of the "Donkey Kong Jr." arcade game. In this game you control Donkey Kong's son, Donkey Kong Jr., who must rescue his father who has been captured by Mario by climbing vines and avoiding enemies. GAME B has the enemies move faster to ramp up the difficulty.

An adaptation of the "Donkey Kong Jr." arcade game. Move between the top and bottom screens to collect the keys that appear randomly throughout the level. Collect four keys and rescue Donkey Kong from Mario! Collecting four keys in GAME A will also cause most of the enemies on screen to disappear, but they'll stick around in GAME B.

Largely similar to the version of "Donkey Kong Jr." that was released as a "New Wide Screen" model of Game & Watch two years prior. This newer version of the game features full-colour graphics, short musical tunes and floating parasols/balloons that can be grabbed to progress to the end of the level.

The same arcade game remade for home consoles. Control Mario and rescue his girlfriend, who has been kidnapped by Donkey Kong. Avoid obstacles such as barrels and flames by climbing ladders and jumping between platforms. Allowing people to play the original arcade game at home is a core reason as to why Nintendo created the Famicom.

A multiplayer adaptation of the "Donkey Kong 3" arcade game. One player controls Donkey Kong and the other player controls Stanley. Both players use bug spray to scare bugs into attacking the opposing player's side of the screen. GAME A starts a single-player game against an AI opponent, while GAME B starts a multiplayer game.

A remake of the "Mickey Mouse" game for "Panorama Screen" models of Game & Watch. Control Donkey Kong who moves left and right on a barrel to juggle pineapples while avoiding fireballs.  Nintendo seems to have prepared this game ahead of time for when their license to the "Mickey Mouse" characters expired, as the model numbers for the two games (DC-95 and MK-96) appear to be mixed up.

If the puck makes contact with the referee, he'll hit it back in the opposite direction!? GAME A starts a single-player game against an AI opponent, while GAME B starts a multiplayer game.

A more drastic remake of the original "Donkey Kong" arcade game. Mario must clear over 100 stages to rescue Pauline, who has been kidnapped by Donkey Kong. The first few levels of the game are from the original game, and if this game is played on a Super Game Boy, the border used is the same design as the arcade machine's bezel.
